CEO Succession Planning and Selection

As CEO turnover remains near all-time highs, the imperative is clear: CEO succession planning and selection is one of the most critical responsibilities of the board.  Join us as we share best practices, insights, and practical experiences relating to the many challenges and considerations that board directors must navigate when creating a succession plan, selecting a new CEO, and ensuring CEO transition success. Our panelists have experience on both sides of the table: As CEOs themselves, and as board directors who have recently navigated CEO transitions for their organizations.

  • Dr. Joan Lau: Co-Founder and CEO of Spirovant Sciences, Inc.; Independent Director of Brandywine Realty Trust, Universal Display Corporation, and Rockwood Medical; Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center, Inc.
  • Mark Vergnano: CEO and Chairman (Retired) of The Chemours Company; Board Chairman of Johnson Controls International, Board Member of Waters Corporation and the University of Connecticut Foundation, Inc.
  • Frank Mattei (Moderator): Office Managing Partner (Retired) of KPMG Philadelphia.  Current and past Board experience includes the National Italian American Foundation, King’s College of Wilkes-Barre, Drexel University Gupta Institute for Corporate Governance, and the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.
