Director Exchange events are an opportunity for a small group of NACD members to engage with their director peers to discuss a relevant topic over lunch.

CEO succession is widely recognized as the board’s most important responsibility. In today’s environment, that responsibility has never been more complex. Record CEO turnover, heightened shareholder activism, evolving government regulation, technological disruption, and shifting stakeholder expectations all place extraordinary pressure on boards to get succession right.

The most effective boards are moving beyond “replacement planning” toward building robust, forward-looking succession pipelines. This means anticipating future leadership needs, rigorously assessing and developing talent, ensuring cultural alignment, and having a credible emergency plan ready to execute. When done well, succession strengthens resilience, reduces risk, and equips the board to pivot with agility in moments of change.

This session will bring directors together for an open exchange of perspectives, challenges, and practical approaches.

During lunch fellow board members Catharine de Lacy  and Stephen Evans will lead a discussion focused on how boards are addressing succession challenges, practices that improve long-term pipeline strength, and how to avoid pitfalls.
