Blue Ribbon Commission Boardroom Tool Strategy Board Operations Member-Only

Implement Recommendations 5 and 6 from the NACD 2026 Blue Ribbon Commission report: Structure information flows around signals, not status, and leverage committees as an early-warning system.

How to use this tool: Committee chairs can use this guidance to help leverage committee expertise and attention on relevant strategy execution initiatives and clearly communicate insights and early warning signals to the full board for discussion.

Strategy execution oversight is a full board responsibility. However, committees can support the board by going deeper on specific elements of strategy execution in the domains they oversee (e.g., talent, innovation, technology, customer experience). The board should clarify which elements of strategy execution each committee is expected to monitor and when those issues should come back to the full board. This allocation should be based on the board’s committee structure, mandates, strategy, and risk profile.
