As water scarcity continues to challenge the Southwest, board directors face increasing responsibilities in understanding water supply, regulatory compliance, and strategic water management as they affect capital allocation, site selection, operating continuity, and 1–3–5 year growth plans.
This program brings together leaders who have managed water systems, negotiated interstate agreements, and governed organizations operating under real-world water constraints in Nevada, Arizona, and California, where water availability is already shaping regional growth, investment decisions, and operating risk. Drawing on frontline experience, the panel will examine how water governance frameworks, regulatory uncertainty, and competing municipal, agricultural, and commercial demands translate into board-level risks and tradeoffs, with practical regional examples illustrating how short- and long-term needs are assessed and balanced.
This program will provide Board members with information that they need to know about how water supply and allocation can affect their businesses. Board members will be provided with key information about what they should be asking about projected water needs, availability, supply reliability, and the assumptions underlying growth and capital planning.
-
What directors need to understand when water constraints collide with growth, capital and public expectations in the Pacific Southwest and beyond.
-
Explore the gap between policy expectations and physical realities and what that gap means for board judgment in an era of climate volatility and political pressure, including how to assess management’s assumptions regarding water availability and supply reliability.
-
Discuss water governance and its impact to PSW states and beyond with related risks and opportunities most likely to affect business performance and strategic flexibility.
