Cybersecurity in the Boardroom: A Strategic Business Imperative
Cybercrime and cyber espionage have morphed into global emergencies for governments and private sector. The sophistication and scale of threat actors, particular advanced persistent threats, evolves faster than many defenders can address. Knowing how to prioritize your cybersecurity program is vital, and directors must be closely involved in setting priorities and helping their boards and companies visualize the path forward. In 2024, we saw multiple Chinese attributed attacks on US infrastructure by groups such as Volt Typhoon, while North Korea’s Lazarus Group conducted sophisticated operations leveraging masses of fake IT workers that burrowed into U.S. companies. In the ransomware space, Russian cyber criminals had their most successful year to date in extorting U.S. companies to the tune of billions of dollars. K&L Gates national security law partner and former CIA officer Guillermo Christensen led a discussion on recent trends and developments in the cyber threat landscape and identify key areas for board members to focus in the boardroom.
