Boards Enter 2026 Focused on Execution, Succession, and Technology Readiness
As boards look ahead to 2026, directors are sharpening their focus on disciplined execution, CEO succession planning, workforce capability, and technology transformation.
According to the NACD’s 2026 Governance Outlook, more than 60% of directors cite strategy execution as the top area for oversight improvement, while CEO succession planning ranks as the most critical board practice needing attention. At the same time, directors recognize that workforce adaptability and alignment with AI and other technologies will determine whether growth strategies succeed.
The findings reflect a boardroom mindset centered on long-term value creation, organizational resilience, and leadership readiness as economic uncertainty and technological change continue to reshape business priorities.
