Susan Lindberg is an experienced leader in capital intensive, highly regulated industries, collaborating on growth, transformation, and startup initiatives at major and mid-cap U.S. and international public companies. She provides leadership and strategic direction on enterprise level risk, is financially literate, and is knowledgeable in ESG, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. Susan has served on executive teams, advised boards of directors, and has held leadership positions on multiple subsidiary and nonprofit boards. She serves on the advisory board of a private healthcare company. Susan is a shareholder at the law firm of GableGotwals, where she has built a cybersecurity practice. Until its acquisition by Energy Transfer Partners in late 2019, Susan was Executive Vice President and General Counsel of SemGroup Corporation, a NYSE-listed company engaged in moving energy across North America through a network of pipelines, processing plants, refinery connected storage, and marine terminals. At SemGroup, she served on the investment committee, and collaborated with the finance function and investors to raise $1.5B of capital in a challenging environment, via private equity joint ventures in the U.S. and Canada and other transactions. She provided strategic and legal guidance to management and board on M&A, including a $2B expansion into the tanking and terminalling business by acquisition, sale of non-core subsidiaries, and the eventual sale of the company for $5.1B. Previously, Susan was General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Eni US Operating Co. Inc., and part of the U.S. executive team for Eni SpA, a major integrated energy company based in Italy. At Eni, she helped implement the company’s strategy in North and South America. She played a critical legal, business and risk management role in transformative deals: a $4.8 billion acquisition that tripled the company’s U.S. presence, Eni’s entry into Mexico, expansion off the coast of Alaska, and a groundbreaking joint development agreement enabling the company’s first foray into shale gas production. Susan partnered with global Eni management to develop strategy in response to the Gulf of Mexico drilling moratorium in 2010. She also provided leadership in a major U.S. workforce reduction, and in company safety initiatives. Before joining Eni, Susan held key legal roles in the natural gas pipeline business at Duke Energy (2002-2006) and at Enron Corp. (1998-2002). She partnered with commercial teams on strategies for new services and expansions, handled post-M&A integration, collaborated with leadership on risk management and tax matters, and led regulatory and industry advocacy initiatives. She began her career in the Energy Section of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld LLP (1992-1998), developing expertise in transactions and policymaking across the energy industry. Susan has significant expertise in governance. She has worked extensively with boards of directors, and she has also received training via the NACD Governance Fellow program and the prestigious DirectWomen Board Institute. Susan’s interest in risk management has led her to pursue specialized knowledge in cybersecurity and ESG. She earned a Master of Science degree in Cybersecurity from The University of Tulsa. She has a Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) FSA Credential. She is an author of Energy Cybersecurity Law – A Survey, published by LexisNexis. Susan earned her law degree from The University of Texas Law School, and her Bachelor of Arts degree, with high honors in Plan II, from The University of Texas. 713.494.5002 | sslindberg5@icloud.com
