April Schmaltz is the President and CEO for Delta Dental of Iowa, the largest dental insurance carrier in Iowa. With more than 25 years of experience in strategy and new business growth, she has held a variety of executive leadership roles in the health care and financial services industries. 

Ms. Schmaltz has a history of bringing new products to market and growing companies of all sizes. This includes helping TMG Financial Services become one of the 30 largest Mastercard issuers in the US. She has been with Delta Dental since 2014, leading sales, marketing and product development. During her tenure, Delta Dental of Iowa has expanded beyond dental and vision to also offer legal, life and disability benefits and has invested in several companies through its subsidiary. As part of her responsibilities for Delta Dental of Iowa, she serves as president of the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation, Veratrus Benefit Solutions, Inc., Veratrus Health, Inc., and Veratrus Investments, LLC and on the board of directors for Connectify HR. In addition, since 2002, more than $81 million has been contributed to improving the health and smiles of Iowans through the company’s Community Impact Program and the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation. 

Ms. Schmaltz has served on the board of directors for a variety of companies and nonprofits, including guiding early-stage companies to stability and profitability. She currently serves on several professional and community boards and councils including as president of the Healthiest State Initiative, chair of the Global Insurance Accelerator, and on the board of directors for Homesteaders Life Company and the Greater Des Moines Partnership. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Mary’s University and a Master of Business Administration from Iowa State University.
