Table Talk: Charlotte | Blue Ribbon Commission Report

Table Talk provided an opportunity for a small group of NACD members to engage with their director peers to discuss a relevant topic over a meal.

The NACD 2023 Blue Ribbon Commission Report was created to examine the importance of culture in corporate boardrooms. During breakfast, John Boyer led the discussion on the report's key recommended actions and practical tools boards could use and tailor, recognizing that no board culture was the same.

As participants looked ahead to 2024, they were encouraged to reflect on their companies' cultures. The discussion explored how directors would describe their board cultures, what types of clarification or enhancements they would like to see, and whether fellow directors were satisfied with how the existing culture was embraced and demonstrated throughout their organizations.

About the NACD Blue Ribbon Commission: Culture as the Foundation: Building a High-Performing Board

The report represented NACD's latest work at the time in making boards stronger strategic assets to their companies. The 2023 Commission focused on shaping an intentional board culture that was responsive to change and resilient during crises.

The 2023 NACD Blue Ribbon Commission was led by distinguished cochairs Oscar Munoz and Mary Winston, along with an experienced group of 24 directors who served on more than 70 boards across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The Commission closely examined the role of board culture in driving board performance. The resulting report presented key recommended actions and practical tools that boards could use and tailor, recognizing that no board culture was the same.
