What’s one thing you’re learning right now — professionally or personally?

AI and it's impact on work. I am speaking on this and the six generations at work. I will begin as a Fellow at Harvard University in the Fall where I will collaborate with the Institute for Future of Work to help organizations better navigate this challenging time.

 

In your view, what makes a truly effective board member?

Curiosity, humility, collaboration and a genuine engagement on helping the business grow and transform.

 

Beach, mountains, city, or countryside — what’s your ideal getaway?

Mountains all day everyday. I was born in Colorado that that is my happy place.

 

What’s a small daily habit that makes a big difference for you?

I have a morning set of of rituals which includes a strong gratittude practice. This habit sets my mind on the right course for the day.

 

What’s a book every board member should read?

My new book - Who Got You Here, Won't Get You There. It is coming out in the fall and I believe is highly relevant for this time. :)

 

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Use your voice it is powerful. Trust your instincts, they are your guidance system. Listen more than you talk. Be confident and humble simultaneously. Be kind.

 

In your experience, what differentiates great board chairs?

One that is curious, humble, brings humor (especially when things are tough), fosters collaboration, is willing to say the difficult things with kindness.

 

If you had an extra free hour every day, how would you spend it?

Sleeping. I sleep very little and if I could squeeze in a little more sleep it would be incredibly restorative and helpful.

 

What’s the most unforgettable trip or experience you’ve ever had?

I recently traveled solo to Italy for a month. Though I have lived in Italy and speak Italian, it was incredible to experience that country on my own.
