Sylvia Acevedo is an accomplished independent board member, currently serving on two public boards, one with a recent successful IPO, and two privately held corporate boards. She has been nationally and internationally recognized for outstanding achievements in technology, education, federal government and national non-profits. In 2020, Sylvia became a member of the Board of Directors at Qualcomm Inc, a Fortune 150 company, where she serves as a member of the governance committee. During her tenure, the board has successfully overseen crucial events such as CEO selection and transition, major strategic acquisitions, the implementation of vital global supply chain strategies and the attainment of record levels of profitability. In 2021, Sylvia joined the board of Credo Technologies and serves as the Chair of the Governance Committee where she initiated the company-wide integration of an ESG platform and established governance board protocols. In January 2022, Credo was the only tech company to successfully IPO. Sylvia’s impactful board contributions extend to the private sector. In 2021, she played a pivotal role as a board member at Dynamic Signal Inc, when it merged with Social Chorus through a private equity deal funded by Sumeru Equity. Her strategy resulted in a significant increase in the final acquisition price for Dynamic Signal. In September 2022, Sylvia joined the board of Ambri Battery Inc, an early-stage storage company focused on solar and wind farms. In 2023, she became a board member of Quark.AI effectively leveraging her extensive network to position this early-stage company for corporate opportunities in both the United States and Japan. From 2014-2017, Sylvia served on the board of Synergis Education, Inc., a higher education services company. Her tenure coincided with the successful repositioning of its services to the healthcare education licensure market. Sylvia’s dedication to nonprofit work includes 8 years on the national board of the Girl Scouts of the USA, where she served on the executive committee before assuming the role of CEO from 2016-2020. During her CEO tenure, Sylvia spearheaded transformative initiatives, increasing sales of the iconic Cookie program by $120 Million to $880 Million, including modernizing a $500 Million cash transaction system to digital payments in partnership with FiServ and optimizing the cookie platform for mobile. Her strategic vision led to the introduction of 146 new program badges, with 126 of them focused on STEM fields. Under her leadership, over 1 million STEM badges were earned in 2019, including 180,000 in Cybersecurity. Before her CEO tenure at Girl Scouts of the USA, Sylvia held executive and international roles at renowned tech companies such as Apple, Dell, IBM and Autodesk. Sylvia’s extensive experience includes serving as a White House Education Commissioner during the Obama administration, where she spearheaded significant changes in Federal education policy. Her strong commitment to community is evident from her eight-year tenure on the board of the Austin Community Foundation, where she also served as Board Chair. Sylvia’s illustrious career began as a rocket scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Labs where she contributed to the Voyager 2 mission. Her leadership in the tech industry is exemplified by her role as a co-founder of REBA Technologies, a software company that was successfully acquired. Sylvia’s holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering with Honors from New Mexico State University and a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering degree from Stanford University. Sylvia has been honored with an Honorary Doctorate of Science from Duke University (2022) and an Honorary Doctorate from Washington College. (2020) Sylvia is an American born U.S. citizen.
