David Motley is a seasoned board leader recognized for helping companies strengthen governance, navigate strategic change, and build high-performing boards. His governance experience includes three CEO successions, two multibillion-dollar corporate transformations, and leading the design, recruitment, and selection of an entire corporate board.

He serves as a public company director, board chair, lead director, venture investor, and is a former Fortune 500 operating executive with PPG, Alcoa, Respironics, and Covidien, where he led global businesses. His board experience spans public, private, family-owned, venture-backed, and nonprofit organizations, including leadership of Governance, Audit, and Compensation Committees.

He currently serves on the boards of Coherent, F.N.B. Corporation, Koppers Holdings, Armada Supply Chain Solutions (Lead Director), and SRI (Board Chair). He is Co-Founder and General Partner of BTN Ventures and Co-Founder of the African American Directors Forum. 

Motley earned degrees from the Univ. of Pittsburgh (BSME) and Harvard (MBA) and designed a lecture series for the Navy War College entitled “World Class Performance: The Role of Leadership, Execution, and Talent.”
