Dan Liljenquist

Chief Strategy Officer, Intermountain Health

Dan Liljenquist is the Chief Strategy Officer of Intermountain Health, where he is responsible for guiding the process of setting and achieving the organization’s strategic priorities. He also oversees Intermountain’s Strategy, Corporate Development, Government Relations, Consumer Experience, Strategic Partnerships and Integration, and Digital Technology Services teams. Prior to joining Intermountain in 2012, Dan served in the Utah State Senate and was recognized nationally for his work on Medicaid and public-sector pension reforms. He began his career as a consultant at Bain & Company before joining Affiliated Computer Systems to lead operational strategy for its commercial solutions division. He also served as president and chief operating officer of FOCUS Services LLC, a direct sales support and call center services provider. Dan also is the chief architect and current board chair of Civica Rx, an initiative launched in 2018 to create a not-for-profit generic drug company to ensure that essential generic medications are available and affordable to everyone. After growing to include 55 health systems as members of Civica Rx and producing and distributing approximately 60 medications, the company launched CivicaScript, the operating unit that led to the 2022 announcement that Civica would begin producing and distributing affordable insulin in 2024. He is the lead author of “Addressing Generic-Drug Market Failures – The Case for Establishing a Nonprofit Manufacturer,” published in the New England Journal of Medicine in May 2018. In 2021, Dan also helped launch and currently serves as board chair of Graphite Health, a member-led, non-profit company dedicated to making healthcare data interoperability easy and affordable, and facilitating the rapid adoption of digital health solutions. In 2022 and 2021, Dan was recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of the “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare.” Also in 2021, he was listed as one of the “Top 25 Innovators in Healthcare” and featured in “The Collaborative: 45 healthcare leaders who exemplify collaboration created in service to the patient.” He earned a Juris Doctorate from The University of Chicago Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Brigham Young University. Dan and his family reside in Bountiful, Utah.
