Christopher Roth
President and CEO, St. Luke’s Health System
Chris Roth is an experienced change leader and visionary health-care executive providing strategic direction and shaping a culture of continuous improvement for Idaho’s largest health system.
He has more than 30 years of experience in health care, starting as a pharmacy technician and moving into positions of increasing responsibility in administration, specialty practice management, and executive and leadership positions with multiple health organizations, giving him deep experience in hospital operations, physician proactive management, clinical networks, and health plans.
He joined St. Luke’s in early 2007, when the organization had been a health system for less than six months and led much of the effort to establish St. Luke’s as one of the country’s top health systems. He served as St. Luke’s regional chief operating officer, regional chief executive officer, senior vice president, and chief operating officer for the health system before being selected in 2019 as president and CEO, assuming these responsibilities in February 2020. The health system has tripled in size during Roth’s nearly two decades with the organization.
Nationally recognized for quality, patient safety, and consumer preference, St. Luke’s comprises eight hospitals, Idaho’s only children’s hospital, a nationally recognized cancer center, more than 350 clinics throughout southern Idaho and into eastern Oregon, a clinically and financially integrated network of more than 5,000 providers and 290,000 accountable lives, and a health insurance entity, St. Luke’s Health Plan, launched in 2022. St. Luke’s is the only health system based in Idaho and employs approximately 17,000 people.
Philanthropic commitment, community engagement, strong and balanced performance, and St. Luke’s Health System’s successful ongoing transformation to value are among the initiatives that Roth has helped to guide and direct, informed by his three-plus decades of professional commitment across the health-care delivery continuum.
He has extensive industry knowledge of and experience with emerging technologies, care delivery and care models, and consumerism and the consumer experience. Roth has built winning teams grounded in vibrant and resilient cultures, mentored emerging leaders and executives, and cultivated strong community partners and partnerships.
During his tenure at St. Luke’s, he has helmed operations as the health system implemented an Epic-based electronic health records system; guided development and municipal approval of St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center’s master campus plan; and helped to architect the integration into the system of multiple clinics, practices, and hospitals, including what are now St. Luke’s Elmore Medical Center and St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Hospital.
In keeping with his commitment to community engagement and involvement, Roth is a member of multiple local and national organizations, boards, and committees
