Anthony Mazzarelli, MD, JD, MBE is Co-President and CEO and board member of Cooper University Health Care and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, New Jersey. He leads the nonprofit academic health system with 14,000 employees, 1,800 physicians and advanced practice providers and $3B in annual revenue.

Dr. Mazzarelli is the co-author of two best-selling books: Compassionomics: The Revolutionary Scientific Evidence That Caring Makes a Difference and Wonder Drug: 7 Scientifically Proven Ways That Serving Others Is the Best Medicine for Yourself. 

He speaks widely on leadership, governance, and organizational performance — grounded in the research behind the books. 

Under his leadership, Cooper has achieved record quality, patient satisfaction, employee engagement and financial results. Dr. Mazzarelli also serves on the board of Bayada Home Health where he is on both the Governance and Leadership Committees. 


Dr. Mazzarelli earned his medical degree at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, his law degree at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and his master’s in bioethics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. A practicing emergency medicine physician, healthcare executive, and lawyer, he has received numerous awards for leadership, and has been featured in media outlets including CNN, Fox News, NPR, USA TODAY, The Washington Post, and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
