About The Event
Private companies, like their public company counterparts, aim to build value and cultivate agility and resilience in a turbulent and volatile environment. But in contrast to their public counterparts, private companies have greater board oversight latitude and flexibility, as well as a variety of risks and opportunities specific to their status as privately held businesses.
The path to excellent governance for private company boards is not only fraught with dangers that public firms must avoid but also made difficult by significant liquidity, business continuity, growth, strategy, risk, and human capital issues.
The Private Company Governance Learning Series of webinars is designed specifically for directors who wish to enhance the effectiveness of private company boards. Each event will focus on a specific issue or trend or a company type (e.g., family-owned, IPO, pre-IPO, private-equity owned, or employee-owned) unique to privately held companies.
The second webinar in our 2023 Private Company Governance Learning Series will take place in partnership with the NACD Northern California chapter. This webinar will focus on start-ups seeking venture-backed capital and discuss the various nuances and challenges of operating under a venture capital (VC) business model. With inflation rates, widespread layoffs in the technology sector, and a slowdown in capital markets and VC funding, these issues are even more topical and important. We have convened a stellar panel composed of board members and leaders in the venture-capital industry to discuss strategies for creating value in a venture-backed company, including effective capital formation and allocation, talent management, exit planning, and a range of effective tools to help you serve as an impactful board member of a private company board.
