About The Event
Black women bring unparalleled leadership, insight, and experience to the boardroom, yet they remain vastly underrepresented in corporate governance. This event featured an exclusive viewing of “Onboard: The Story of Black Women on Boards.” This award-winning film sheds light on the journeys, challenges, and triumphs of Black women who have broken barriers in the boardroom.
Following the screening of this powerful documentary was an engaging audience discussion with McKnight Foundation President & CEO, Tonya Allen and Gail Peterson, independent board director, former Chief Marketing Officer (EVP Global Marketing & Communications), and change agent. It challenged, inspired, and equiped attendees with insights to drive meaningful change through board service. We ontinued the conversation during networking intervals designed to create connections between those looking to advance their board career and those looking to attract new talent to boards.
About OnBoard
This award-winning film celebrates the evolution of Black women on boards, starting with Patricia Roberts Harris in 1971—the first to serve on a Fortune 500 board and a hidden figure of America's corporate boardrooms. The film is seen through the eyes of a group of fearless women organized to create change. It tells the story of what it means to be “first.” It inspires us to be ready to serve and make meaningful impact. It shares the importance of opening doors and opportunities for those that follow, creating value for the organizations directors serve. View the trailer here.
