Michelle Lucero

Michelle Lucero is accountable for the corporate governance, compliance, risk management, cybersecurity, and legal divisions. Lucero has over 25 years of experience in highly regulated industries such as health care, telecommunications, and the public sector/government. Lucero’s competencies in human resources include compensation committee oversight, executive and staff benefits, and employment/labor counsel. Prior to joining Children’s Hospital Colorado, Lucero served as an assistant general counsel for Centura Health, where she was responsible for all employment, labor, and related compliance matters, as well as the deputy city attorney (and subsequently acting city attorney) for the City and County of Denver, where she was responsible for leading the office as well as advising the mayor, city council, and the mayor’s cabinet on legal and policy issues for the City and County of Denver. As the deputy city attorney for the City and County of Denver, Lucero led a wholistic strategic restructuring of the legal division for the city, replacing all five division leaders with zero litigation escalation. Lucero serves as an independent director for COPIC Companies, a private corporation. She is a trustee for the Boettcher Foundation, a private foundation with assets of over $350 million, and is the chair of Boettcher’s governance and audit committee. She also serves on the Vectra Bank’s advisory board and the Denver Community Credit Union’s supervisory committee. Lucero served on the Metropolitan State University of Denver's board of trustees, having served three years as chair during which she was responsible for development of the university president’s total compensation package and performance evaluation. Lucero also led the university through the search, transition, and hire of a new university president after the retirement of the university’s 12-year incumbent’s retirement.
