Chief People & Digital Technology Officer, Moderna

Tracey Franklin is Moderna’s Chief People and Digital Technology Officer, responsible for integrating people, technology, and business strategy to reimagine how Moderna operates and delivers for patients. 

In 2024, Tracey’s responsibilities expanded to include Digital Technology, bringing together people, culture, and digital innovation. She is positioning Moderna at the forefront of how AI, data, and digital platforms are reshaping how work gets done and how medicines are developed and delivered. This includes embedding AI into core workflows to drive efficiency and enable more individualized employee and patient experiences, while supporting data-driven decision-making at scale.

Since joining Moderna in 2019 as Chief Human Resources Officer, Tracey has shaped a high-performance culture and people strategy, notably leading a seven-fold increase in global headcount during the COVID-19 pandemic and the company’s subsequent commercialization. Under her leadership, Moderna has been consistently recognized as a top employer by Science.

Prior to Moderna, Tracey spent 15 years at Merck & Co., Inc., where she led global talent strategy as Vice President, HR Chief Talent and Strategy Officer, and served on Merck’s HR Leadership Team. Her roles included responsibility for HR across all divisions in Europe, head of HR for the UK and Ireland, and HR Operations leadership for global program implementation. She was based in Switzerland, the UK, and the U.S.

Tracey holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts and Sciences from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Arts in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
