Sybille van den Hove

Executive Director, Bridging for Sustainability; Board Director, IBA

Sybille van den Hove is an independent director at IBA Worldwide, a listed Belgian company that designs, produces, and markets innovative solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other serious illnesses and for industrial applications such as the sterilization of medical devices. She is a cofounder of 2030, a Belgian CEO alliance for sustainability.

For over three decades, van den Hove has been exploring sustainability issues in science, within science-policy interfaces, and with businesses. After graduating with a degree in physics and an initial experience in a start-up company, she decided to focus on environmental issues and completed a doctorate in ecological economics. She has worked on environmental governance, science-policy interfaces, decision-making and policy formation under conditions of complexity, innovation and precaution, and sustainability strategies of corporations.

She has participated in numerous European research projects, notably in the fields of biodiversity and climate change. Over the last few years, she has accompanied companies and other institutions in their transformations toward sustainability. She has also chaired the scientific committee of the European Environment Agency and has been involved in numerous scientific advisory boards, juries, and evaluation committees.
