Susan H. Mallory is a former Fortune 500 financial services executive, commercial banker and an experienced board director. Industries in which she has served as a corporate board director include financial services, business services, insurance, and technology. Susan has extensive experience advising and financing companies in a broad spectrum of industries.  She is qualified to serve on Audit, Finance, Investments, Nominating and Governance, Risk and Strategy Committees.  In addition to serving as a corporate and non-profit board director, she advises private companies and CEOs on strategic growth, governance and exit planning.

She has considerable expertise in: Strategic transformations of organizations and high impact P&L’s; Advising and financing companies through substantial growth nationally and globally, successful exits, ESOP transitions, acquisitions, restructurings, IPOs, and CEO successions; Risk Management; Working with regulators and regulations; Corporate governance; Financial services, banking and wealth management.

At Northern Trust, Susan served in four key executive roles. She led Wealth Management’s national and global banking business, serving as the Banking Practice Executive, producing record revenues (of 10 figures) and balance sheet growth ($26B in loans).  She built and led a diverse and highly effective team which transformed and re-branded the business from transactional to advisory banking, resulting in outstanding client retention and growth, employee satisfaction, and higher ROE. In addition, she and the team initiated a contemporary banking delivery platform. Susan also served as President and significantly grew two large geographic regions, and as founding National Director of Business Owner Services, working with companies and their founders and investors.  She was a commercial banking advisor, and ran banking teams at Union, Wells Fargo and City National Banks, as well.

Susan currently serves as a Board Director for State Farm Fire and Casualty Insurance Company, the largest homeowner insurer in the United States, and for State Farm Life Insurance Company. Both are subsidiaries of State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, a private Fortune 50 company. She is an Advisory Board Member of both Scherzer International, a provider of specialized background reports and of WEALTHAWK, which provides an AI-powered lead generation tool. She has been serving on large non-profit boards for over 30 years, including but not limited to, Occidental College, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Jackie Robinson Family YMCA, Rancho Coastal Humane Society, San Diego Symphony Foundation and National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Pacific Southwest Chapter. She has chaired boards through strategic and governance transformations, CEO successions and crises. Susan is NACD Directorship Certified™, holds the Certificate for Private Company Governance from the Private Directors Association (PDA) and serves as a trainer in their certification program.

Susan has been recognized for her board service and contributions to the community, having been named an NACD Directorship100 2024 recipient, one of the 2023 Most Influential Women Corporate Board Directors by WomenInc.com and having received the Corporate Director’s Forum Award for Governance, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Human Dignity Award, the Girl Scout Cool Woman Award, and others. She is a member of NACD, PDA, Women Corporate Directors (WCD), International Women’s Forum, and Chairmen’s Roundtable (CRT). Susan and her husband are very involved with animal rescue and welfare and enjoy rowing, cooking, and traveling to historic sites, while spending time on both the West and East Coasts.

She holds a BA in History and an MA in Diplomacy and World Affairs from Occidental College in Los Angeles.
