Mark Vergnano

Board Member, Retired CEO and Chairman of the Board of The Chemours Company

Mark Vergnano is the retired Chairman and CEO of The Chemours Company, a $6B revenue chemistry company which was named to the Fortune 500 in 2018.  He served as the company’s initial President and CEO upon its spinoff from DuPont in July 2015 and retired from the Chairman position in 2022.

Vergnano began his career at DuPont in 1980 as a process engineer in its fibers business. He went on to serve the company in various leadership capacities and geographic locales over the next 35 years with distinction, culminating in his appointment as Executive Vice President in October 2009.

Vergnano received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Connecticut and a Master’s degree in business administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a member of the University of Connecticut College of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Engineers and Hall of Fame.  

Vergnano is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Johnson Controls International (eff August 1, 2025) and a member of the Board of Directors of Waters Corporation. He is the past Chairman of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) Board of Directors, past Chairman of the National Safety Council Board of Directors, and a past board member of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).   He serves on the advisory board for the University of Connecticut College of Engineering and the board of the University of Connecticut Foundation,   Vergnano was the 2022 Recipient of the Chemical Industry Medal from the Society of the Chemical Industry; the 2022 Recipient of the HBCU Trail Blazer Award; the 2021 recipient of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ (AIChE) “Doing a World of Good” award; and the 2018 recipient of the AIChE’s Government and Industry Leaders (AGILE) Award. He was named the EY Entrepreneur of the Year for Philadelphia in 2019.
