John Skakun is co-leader of the Sidley’s Securities and Shareholder Litigation practice, advising companies, boards, and executives in high-stakes litigation and corporate crises. His practice focuses on securities and shareholder matters, investigations, M&A disputes, and complex commercial and bankruptcy litigation. John has delivered winning results for clients including Walgreens Boots Alliance, Johnson & Johnson, Apollo Global Management, United Airlines, JPMorgan Chase, and others.

A seasoned trial lawyer and trusted counselor, John has led some of the nation’s largest securities class actions and fiduciary duty cases, first-chaired and won complex trials, and served as lead counsel in board and internal investigations. He also advises boards on risk management, compliance, and D&O insurance.

John earned his J.D., with honors, from The University of Chicago Law School in 2008, where he served as Managing Editor of The University of Chicago Law Review. He received his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 2005.
