Chris Powers is director of Global Exploration Commercial and Portfolio (ECAP) for Chevron, a position he assumed in July 2025. He has worldwide responsibility for leading the commercial, portfolio, and capital management aspects of Chevron’s Global Exploration portfolio. Powers is based in Houston, Texas.

Previously, Powers served as Vice President, CCUS & Emerging, since October 2021. In that role, he had worldwide responsibility for leading and growing Chevron’s CCUS, Geothermal, & Lithium businesses. Prior to that role, Powers was General Manager of Strategy and Business Performance for Chevron North America Exploration and Production Company, which included the leading Permian, DJ Basin, and Gulf of America positions. Chris led the merger integration of Noble Energy’s North American assets into Chevron.

Powers’ recent leadership roles include General Manager, Maintenance & Reliability, at the Pascagoula, Mississippi Refinery, and Area Operations Manager in Bakersfield, California, within the San Joaquin Valley upstream operations. Previously, he served as Advisor to the Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President of Upstream.

In addition to his current Global Exploration responsibilities, Powers is a Board Member and Director for Carbon Clean, a growing Carbon Capture company based in London, England.

Powers began his career as a process engineer in the Chevron Energy Research and Technology Company in Bellaire, Texas. Over his 23-plus year career with Chevron, he has held technical, business, and leadership positions of increasing responsibility in Kazakhstan, Thailand, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.

A native of Port Neches, Texas, Chris received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering Magna Cum Laude from Rice University in Houston, Texas. He is a registered Professional Engineer.

Married with three children, Powers and his family are active in the Houston community, where his children, ranging from high school to elementary age, attend HISD public schools. He is a Governing Director of the Houston Symphony. Powers also serves as the Chevron Executive Sponsor for the Chevron – Rice University relationship and serves on the George R. Brown School of Engineering External Advisory Board at Rice.
