What should Board Directors focus on to effectively support a company’s drive for global growth? This challenge requires both a strategic and practical understanding, as various factors shape the global landscape. These include shifting geopolitics, global economics, the impact of trade tariffs, access to labor pools outside the U.S., and the implications for supply chains in both the short and long term.
For most companies, achieving global growth involves a strategic process and concrete actions to either respond to global demand or optimize supply-side capabilities. Even companies that are already operating internationally must stay attuned to a rapidly changing world. As they navigate both long-term strategies and immediate tactical decisions, they must consider evolving global dynamics.
Learning Outcomes
- Geopolitical Developments: Understanding political risks and opportunities in different regions is essential for global strategy.
- Global Economic Trends: Boards must be aware of shifts in global markets, currency fluctuations, and inflationary pressures that may impact business operations.
- Trade and Tariffs: Keeping up with evolving trade agreements and tariff structures is crucial, as they can significantly affect costs and market access.
- Labor Availability: Access to talent in other regions may become critical, especially as domestic labor shortages impact operations.
- Supply Chain Considerations: Both immediate disruptions and long-term sustainability of supply chains should be on the radar, including potential changes in sourcing and logistics.
