2015-2016 NACD Private Company Governance Survey: Family Business Boards
In Brief: The 2015–2016 NACD Private Company Governance Survey: Family Business Boards presents findings from our annual questionnaire that was in the field from March through May 2015. This report is the first in a series dedicated to private companies of different ownership structures. It offers new insight on matters relevant to family-owned businesses, such as leadership succession. It also examines how family business boards are tackling cyber risk and other urgent issues that face all boards. Reports with data from other private company types and public companies and nonprofit organizations are published separately.
How boards can use this resource:
- Identify areas for improvement in current governance practices, including board composition, structure, succession planning, and risk oversight;
- Inform your board’s strategy for designing executive compensation plans; and
- Benchmark your board’s strategic priorities.
Relevant audiences: Board members and corporate secretaries of family-owned companies, especially board chairs, lead directors, and committee chairs.
