Merit E. Janow is an internationally recognized expert in international trade and investment and dean emerita and ongoing professor at Columbia University. She has served in senior government roles at the World Trade Organization Appellate Body, the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice, and the Office of the US Trade Representative, where she led trade negotiations with Japan and China.
Janow is the non-executive chairman of Mastercard and serves on the boards of Aptiv and the American Funds, Capital Group. She previously chaired Nasdaq and serves as chair of the Japan Society board. In 2024, she was recognized as Outstanding Director of the Year.
Earlier in her career, Janow was a corporate M&A lawyer with Skadden, Arps in NY. Sheholds a JD from Columbia Law School and a BA from the University of Michigan.
