John Thompson is a venture partner at Lightspeed, where he has worked closely with founders since 2018 to help companies scale and navigate growth. With more than 40 years of enterprise leadership experience, he previously served as chairman of the board of Microsoft and spent a decade as chairman and CEO of Symantec, where he led the company's growth from approximately $600 million to $6 billion in revenue. Earlier in his career, Thompson spent 28 years at IBM in a variety of leadership roles spanning sales, marketing, and software development. He also served as CEO of Virtual Instruments, a Lightspeed portfolio company. In addition to advising emerging technology companies, he serves on the board of Rubrik and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
