If you could give yourself advice on your first day as a board member, what would it be?

Listen and learn about the business issues, challenges, opportunities, and board dynamics, as well as look for places where you can contribute.

What's the most memorable trip you've ever taken?

Helli-skiing in the Monashee Mountains of British Columbia, Canada

From your perspective, what are some key traits that the most effective board members possess?

Listen well, desire to help the company & management be a success, prepare for meetings, helpful, desire to grow in understanding of the business, punctual and have good attendance at meetings, share business experience that is useful in meetings/conversations, good ambassador for the company, refer business to grow revenue when able, and be a team player.

If you could instantly become an expert in any skill or subject, what would it be?

Investments, especially in real estate, but also in other alternatives.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Face the challenges and deal with them. This is the interpretation of a saying from my father: "stick your head in the lion's mouth"!

What's the most interesting or unusual job you've ever had?

I am greatly invigorated by my current position of leading our company in private capital investment, but before that leading a national title insurance company was a joy.

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?

Ronald Reagan would be a great one to spend time with as he was so effective in turning our country around and leading it to prosperity.

What's your favorite way to relax and unwind?

Working the ranch (tractor work and making improvements). I enjoy the construction and maintenance process where you can look back and see the results.
