What’s a small daily habit that makes a big difference for you?
Reflecting and learning while exercising! Listen to podcasts, watch videos that teach you something, read/listen an interesting article.
What’s a book every board member should read?
Boards That Lead: When to Take Charge, When to Partner, and When to Stay Out of the Way by Ram Charan, Dennis Carey, and Michael Useem.
They explain the three essential responsibilities of effective board members: leading, supporting, and monitoring. It offers clear, actionable frameworks to help directors understand how and when to apply each of these roles, equipping them to navigate complex governance challenges and contribute more strategically in the boardroom.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
When faced with change, confront it directly and adapt thoughtfully. Stay aware of your environment, and avoid assuming that consensus automatically equates to the right decision. Independent thinking is essential, especially when navigating uncertainty.
In your experience, what differentiates great board chairs?
Great board chairs lead with clarity, strategic insight, and sound judgment. They understand the distinct role of governance, encourage open and balanced dialogue, and ensure meetings remain focused on long-term priorities. They build strong, respectful relationships with the CEO, offering both challenge and support. Skilled in managing diverse perspectives, they foster collaboration while maintaining accountability. Committed to board development, they support effective onboarding, evaluation, and succession planning. With high integrity and emotional intelligence, they guide the board to operate cohesively and make informed decisions that serve the organization’s best interests. Their leadership elevates the board’s impact and overall effectiveness.
If you had an extra free hour every day, how would you spend it?
I would dedicate it to learning new languages—specifically Portuguese, which is my father's native language, and Italian. Studying languages keeps the mind active and sharp, while also offering a deeper connection to different cultures and ways of thinking. It’s a meaningful way to honor my heritage and expand my global perspective.
What’s the most unforgettable trip or experience you’ve ever had?
I visited Patagonia and experienced some of the most extreme weather and breathtaking natural beauty in the world. At the time, I was just beginning to learn photography, and the stunning landscapes not only gave me a new perspective but also inspired me to continue developing my passion for taking moments in my digital camera.
