South Africa. Cape Town, wine country and private game reserve next to Kruger National Park.
From your perspective, what are some key traits that the most effective board members possess?
Great listening skills, ability to ask challenging questions in a non-confrontational way, open to new ideas, ability to change your mind when needed, hold your ground when needed and knowing when to use both, mentoring of executives, approachable by senior and junior management.
If you could instantly become an expert in any skill or subject, what would it be?
Where AI will be in 5 years.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Treat other people the way you want to be treated.
What's the most interesting or unusual job you've ever had?
Leading investor relations at a large public company.
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
Mark Twain. I would laugh, be inspired and have more insight into the human behavior in one evening than in a whole year.
What's your favorite way to relax and unwind?
Do something I have to focus on and tune out all distractions. That can be reading a great book, playing golf, or meet someone new and learn what is important to them.
