What’s one thing you’re learning right now — professionally or personally?

To be a better teacher. I have been teaching for more than 10 years and continue to learn better ways to communicate and deliver content.

 

In your view, what makes a truly effective board member

Someone that comes to meetings prepared for the discussions by reviewing materials and understanding the market place prior to the meeting, and is willing to engage in discussions to get to the best answer for the organization.

 

Beach, mountains, city, or countryside — what’s your ideal getaway?

Mountains - skiing, hiking, or camping.

 

What’s a small daily habit that makes a big difference for you?

I have quiet time every morning before starting work or personal activities.

 

What’s a book every board member should read?

Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin.

 

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Be people centric. Things come and go, but people and relationships endure.

 

In your experience, what differentiates great board chairs?

Being willing and able to listen to a variety of inputs and then make a sound decision.

 

If you had an extra free hour every day, how would you spend it?

With my wife. Work and family commitments consume a lot of our time.

 

What’s the most unforgettable trip or experience you’ve ever had?

Hiking across the Grand Canyon with my son for his graduation trip. My wife and I walked every day for 6 months to build strength and stamina while having quality time together. My son and I had a great week hiking and camping as we traversed the canyon.
