Amadou Diarra brings over three decades of global expertise in healthcare innovation, policy, government affairs, philanthropy, patient advocacy and strategic governance, making him a valuable asset to public and private boards. His career spans executive leadership, complex P&L management, board leadership and policy-driven transformation, underscored by a commitment to health equity and innovation. Known for his ability to navigate multifaceted regulatory landscapes and advance pharmaceutical innovation, Amadou has a proven track record of delivering sustainable growth and impactful governance. He offers a unique perspective on healthcare policy and governance, focused on driving strategic long-term value for boards committed to impactful leadership in healthcare and beyond. 

Amadou’s journey at Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) began in 1991, where he steadily rose through positions of increasing responsibility, navigating complex market environments, successfully launching new initiatives/products, and driving significant business growth. Early in his career, Amadou held several general management roles for Indonesia, Turkey, the Nordics, UK & Ireland. As VP-Market Access Europe, he held regional responsibility over pricing & reimbursement, government affairs and brand communications. Separately he also led a landmark philanthropic initiative to combat HIV/AIDS in Africa.  

Most recently, as Senior Vice President of Global Policy, Advocacy, and Government Affairs, Amadou spearheaded BMS’ efforts to create a pro-patient and pro-innovation environment on a global scale. He led an integrated organization that engaged with key stakeholders, including policymakers, patient support organizations, healthcare professionals, and industry associations. Amadou’s leadership was instrumental to successfully influence major healthcare reforms and establish platforms that have significantly enhanced the equity, efficiency and sustainability of healthcare delivery worldwide.  

Amadou’s leadership is further reflected in the roles he held as Chair of BMS’ European Works Council, Chair of PhRMA’s International Section Executive Committee. He also served as Board Chair of BioNJ, Council Chair of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) and member of  the U.S. Chamber Board of Directors. Amadou is now Independent Director of the Max Foundation Board and Advisor to the BioNJ Board. 

Amadou holds a Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Tours and an MBA in Management from Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Tours. He completed executive education at INSEAD CEDEP and is a member of the Executive Leadership Council. To board service, Amadou offers the NACD Directorship Certification®.
