Chris Bruzzo
Retired Executive (Amazon, Starbucks, Electronic Arts), Board Director (Boot Barn, Peloton, Mission Scholars)
Building on 32 years of successful experience in ecommerce, consumer goods, interactive entertainment, retail, food/beverage, and healthcare, Chris is now retired from operating executive life and is now a highly engaged board director and advisor, leveraging his track record of building high-performing, diverse teams that create world-class experiences for brands that have global ambitions.
Most recently, Chris served (with colleague Karen Boone) as Interim Co-CEO for Peloton (NASDAQ: PTON) from May-October 2024, successfully managing a challenging CEO transition and helping to put the company on solid ground.
In August 2023, Chris completed a 9-year tour of duty as the Chief Experience Officer for Electronic Arts, the largest independent videogame company in the world. His role there included the end-to-end customer experience across the global brand and games/experiences portfolio for EA (NASDAQ: EA), a $7 billion annual revenue company. Chris was responsible for a team of 1,950 globally (marketing, commercial, customer service, experience engineering, Positive Play Group and music), and an annual budget of $950 million. He joined EA in September 2014 as the company’s first-ever global CMO.
As a board director, Chris serves as the chair of the compensation committee for Boot Barn (NYSE: BOOT) where he has been a director since 2021, and as chair of the nominating/governance committee for Peloton (NASDAQ: PTON). Previously, he served as a director to Clif Bar & Company (having successfully landed a great outcome for the founders and the brand in its acquisition by Mondelez for $2.9 billion), Moneygram, and Blue Nile.
Chris is an accomplished digital executive and brand builder with deep experience in all aspects of direct-to-consumer marketing, as well as digital strategy and business unit GM leadership experience (with P&L accountability).
Prior to his time at Electronic Arts, Chris had a 7-year successful run at Starbucks, building marketing functions and serving in general management roles as part of the inner-circle team that managed the Starbucks turnaround in 2008-2012. Prior to Starbucks, he spent 4 years at Amazon.com, where he ultimately led global marketing and built the first marketing plans for Kindle and Amazon Prime.
During his tenure at Starbucks, Chris was the architect of the first Starbucks digital experience, building award-winning loyalty and personalization programs that created deep connections with customers. At Amazon, Chris oversaw marketing and public relations teams and led a team of software developers responsible for Amazon Wish Lists and gift registry services.
A first-generation Latino, Chris was the founding executive sponsor of SomosEA, the Latinx employee resource group at EA, he is also a member of the Latino Corporate Directors Association and proudly serves as the President of the Board for Mission Scholars (a Hispanic-serving Santa Barbara 501c3) that provides college access, affordability, and success, serving as a vital resource for low-income and first-generation students.
Chris is from a family of educators and so it was natural for him to serve for many years on the board of directors for Education.com and he now serves as an investor and advisor to Wize, a start-up that provides digital exam preparation for first-year university students.
Chris and his wife Teresa have three adult children (and one granddaughter!) and live in Santa Barbara, California, where Chris plays a lot of beach volleyball. He holds a degree in political studies from Whitworth University.
