Bella Goren

Director

Bella Goren serves as a director on the boards of three global companies: Gap Inc., a retail company with a portfolio of brands; LyondellBasell Industries NV, one of the largest plastics, chemical, and refining companies; and MassMutual Financial Group, a leading mutual life insurance company, with a number of major affiliates, including Oppenheimer Funds.

From 2010 through the end of 2013, Goren served as American Airlines and AMR Corp.’s chief financial officer, with responsibility for all financial functions, fuel management, asset acquisitions, supply chain, and the Cargo division. From 2006 to 2010, she was American’s senior vice president of Customer Relationship Marketing. Her responsibilities included the AAdvantage® program, the company’s call center operations, and revenue generation via AA.com.

Goren joined American in 1986 as a financial analyst and held managerial positions in HR/Compensation and Revenue Management. In 1992, she became AMR’s director of Investor Relations. In 1994, she was promoted to vice president for AMR Services, a subsidiary of AMR Corp. that provided aviation-related services worldwide. Goren was named president of the company in 1996 and held that position until the business was sold in 1998, at which time she was promoted as a corporate officer of American and named vice president of Customer Services Planning. In 2000, her role was expanded to also assume leadership of American’s Asia/Pacific Division. Between 2003 and 2006, she led American’s digital marketing efforts as vice president of Interactive Marketing.

From 1983 to 1985, Goren was a chemical engineer, conducting nuclear waste disposal research for DuPont. She earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Southern Methodist University.

Goren is active in both professional organizations and community efforts. She serves on the boards of the SMU School of Engineering and NACD North Texas, and she is a member of the International Women’s Forum. She has previously served on the boards of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas and Business Council for the Arts. In 2013, she received the Dallas Business Journal’s Women in Business Award.
