Bernard spent her career in the telecommunications industry and retired as president of AT&T. For three consecutive years she was recognized as one of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Business” by Fortune

From 1995 to 2013 he served as CEO of the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), a nonprofit education association that provides the Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMAT. In both 2014 and 2015, the Ethisphere Institute recognized her as among the “100 Most Influential in Business Ethics.” She is an NACD Board Leadership Fellow and governance faculty, a Carnegie Mellon CERT-Certificate in Cyber-Security Oversight holder, and a governance mentor at Plug & Play Tech Center. Steven R. Walker

Steven R. Walker is general counsel of NACD and managing director of NACD’s Board Services Group. He leads the Board Advisory Services faculty in providing counsel to board leaders and C-suite executives on a wide range of strategic governance matters. Walker has served as a senior executive or general counsel to entities ranging from private equity backed corporations to the Fortune 100. Steve also served as an Attorney-Advisor to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2001 to 2004. Walker is a frequent public speaker on the topics of board governance, performance, composition, and strategic influence. He currently sits on the boards of Objective Interface Systems Inc. and ContractRoom. He has served on the Orange Bowl Committee, the Association of Corporate Counsel–Michigan Chapter, and the Friends of the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts–Miami. Shelley Metz-Galloway is a managing director in Protiviti’s metropolitan Washington, DC, office.
