Regional Director

Headquartered in Arlington, VA, the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) is the advocate for the profession of directorship and empowers more than 21,000 directors to lead with confidence in the boardroom. Informed by more than 40 years of experience, NACD serves as the “center of gravity” for corporate governance, delivering insight and resources that director members rely on to make sound strategic decisions and confidently confront complex business challenges.

A 501(c)(3) corporation, with more than 100 staff and a budget of approximately $35 million, NACD serves board members from leading public, private, and nonprofit organizations. NACD provides world-class director development programs, national and local peer-exchange forums, publications, and proprietary research to promote director professionalism and effectiveness, ultimately enhancing the economic sustainability of enterprises and bolstering stakeholder confidence. Fostering leading practices among directors, investors, and governance stakeholders, NACD is shaping the future of board leadership.

At the national level NACD convenes foundation classes (Director Professionalism and Master Class) and hosts a number of signature events annually, including the NACD Global Board Leaders’ Summit, the NACD Directorship 100 Gala, and the NACD CES Experience, along with thought-leadership peer exchanges and other influential symposiums. NACD Fellowships are the most distinguished credentials that U.S. corporate directors can earn.

As a natural extension of the national organization, NACD chapters put on world-class programs in local communities, providing directors with a forum for knowledge exchange – both in the form of hearing from speakers who sit in boardrooms across the country, and via peer-to-peer dialogue. Led by board members who volunteer their time and leadership, NACD’s 21 chapters enable directors to address current and emerging leadership issues, share experiential knowledge, and foster exemplary governance. Programs offer members direct access to leading experts in strategy, governance, cyber risk, CEO succession planning, activism, compensation, audit, diversity and inclusion, and other subject areas essential to board leadership.

Over the past decade NACD’s impact, value, and revenue have grown significantly; the NACD brand has never been stronger, nor the domain more complex. Actualizing its membership goal of 25,000 will require NACD to maximize membership value, resulting in member acquisition and retention. While members are primarily recruited by the national office, the chapters are crucial to member retention by providing exemplary member experience at the local level. This position requires a strong focus on timely and quality events that encompass a range of subjects relevant to boardroom deliberations, as well as defining, advancing, and scaling platforms and success within and across chapters.

As part of an organization-wide strategy, NACD has recently enhanced its level of support and guidance to chapter leaders as they seek to accomplish these and other key objectives. A critical part of this enhanced support is the Regional Director (RD) program.

In collaboration with chapter leaders, the Regional Director (RD) shares chapter best practices to support the development of chapters’ strengths while helping to heighten performance in areas where improvement can be made, including member attendance, program quality, event content/planning/process, and sponsor relationships. The RD helps chapters to deliver exceptional and increasing value to members in order to meet quantitative (number of programs, number of attendees) and qualitative (quality of programs, level of speakers) goals – guided by an established Chapter Success Roadmap -- which in turn feed national goals of retention and growth. He or she may also be involved with chapter board leaders to augment chapter board development, engagement, and committee structure.

This individual will be the third RD to be hired in a national network of RDs who support NACD chapters throughout the United States in achieving consistently high levels of performance by sharing and integrating leading practices.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of leadership experience, the most recent of which will preferably have been in a chapter or stakeholder-facing role within a membership-focused organization of similar size and complexity.   The Regional Director will have the following qualifications and experience:
