As the global marketplace continues to expand, emerging risks and opportunities are altering the geopolitical landscape in new and lasting ways. Directors must keep in mind that the definition and quality of corporate governance will vary widely across the world, and ensure they understand how these differences will impact conducting business in those areas. From corruption and bribery in emerging and frontier markets, to ensuring compliance across borders in M&A deals, to anticipating potential political shake-ups, directors must be prepared to lead—even in times of great uncertainty.

Drawing on key takeaways heard from leading experts at NACD Directorship 2020 peer exchange held in March and new insights from Maj. Gen. Barbara J. Faulkenberry and Marvin Zonis, this webinar will focus on how directors can anticipate and capitalize on these emerging opportunities and mitigate and respond to challenges.

Before joining NACD, Bew was a principal at Tapestry Networks, where she ran several networks of large-cap public company board members, and was a leader of the firm’s work on bank governance and board-shareholder engagement issues. She has been a featured presenter on governance topics at conferences of the Institute of Internal Auditors, the National Retail Federation, the International Financial Risk Institute, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Beijing.

She entered the Air Force in 1982 as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. Her career includes a variety of operational and staff positions to include squadron, group, wing, and task force command.  Faulkenberry has commanded at various levels to support combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Immediately prior to this assignment, she was the Director of Logistics for U.S. Africa Command to provide air, land, sea logistics to support U.S. military operations, exercises, and African outreach activities.

Marvin Zonis has taught courses at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business,on the international political economy, political risk, and business leadership. He consults to corporations and professional asset management firms throughout the world, helping them to identify, assess, and manage their political risks in the changing global environment.
