Mary R. Wadleigh
NACD Capital Area Chapter Administrator
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Mary has been a Washington, DC resident for 38 years. She also enjoys time spent in a vacation home on the Maine coast, often with visits from son Toby Jayne, 35 and daughter Alice Jayne, 31. Toby is a Fund Manager in the London office of Wellington Management – for a successful International fund he himself started! Alice is a hard-working public defender for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Essex County Superior Court, north of Boston.
- Long active in the Capitol Hill community, Mary’s volunteer work has focused on church, schools, environmental education, and historic preservation.
- She served as PTA President in the D. C. Public Schools Capitol Hill Cluster Schools, as Clerk and Treasurer of her church and as overall Chair, Land Use Committee Chair, Membership Chair, and Planning & Zoning Committee member of two neighborhood associations on Capitol Hill.
- She has recently completed a first three-year term on the Board of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, which she serves as Secretary.
Mary’s professional work has included:
- Office staff member in the Boston & Washington offices of U. S. Senator Edward W. Brooke.
- Office staff member, Staples & Charles, a museum exhibit design firm on Capitol Hill
- Office Secretary, Long & Foster Realtors, in the Capitol Hill office
- Chapter Affairs Director, National Association of Corporate Directors, Capital Area Chapter – October, 2007 to the present.
- Having left college in 1969, Mary returned as a seasoned adult to Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts, to complete a B.A. in Environmental Science & Public Policy, which she received in May, 2007.
