The Founder and Managing Director of The Piedmont Group LLC, a Venture Development firm focused on building value for investors and stockholders. Ed Broenniman has over 25 years of successful experience as a CEO/COO and Director with private venture backed and publicly held growth firms and Fortune 50 companies. Mr. Broenniman has built four venture backed technology companies and serves on a public Board, Aethlon Medical (AEMD). He is on the Board of two privately held IT firms and has served on public company boards as well as venture backed firms. He was the first Entrepreneur in Residence at the Dingman Center, University of Maryland.
Mr. Broenniman’s expertise is taking middle market and emerging firms with significant market potential and focusing the Board and the management on what they must do to increase revenue, build profitability and develop substantial stockholder value. As a Board member and Corporate Advisor with public and privately held growth firms, he has a proven track record of increasing profitability, containing costs, and accelerating growth opportunities.
His track record includes many successes:
- At Syntech, Inc., a modem firm, as President/CEO, he built a highly profitable $35 million company and sold it to Penril, Inc., an American Stock Exchange Company.
- At Jolynne, Inc., a $40 million computer service company, Mr. Broenniman was brought in as COO to stabilize and develop the firm for sale. He implemented a market positioning strategy that directly led to the sale of the Company to Bell Atlantic, a New York Stock Exchange Company.
- At Vycor, a software company, he organized and led an investment group that brought in a new management team and transitioned the Company from a government contractor into a successful commercial company. With sales at $28 million, Mr. Broenniman structured the sale of the Company to Network Associates (McAfee), listed on the NASDAQ.
- As CEO, he turned an under-performing $45 million manufacturing company into a technology based world class competitor and increased operating margins, reduced working capital requirements by $2.5 million and lead an acquisition program that boosted sales 25%.
- As CEO of a $37 million manufacturing company, he developed and implemented a major workout strategy, turning a $600,000 loss into a $1 million profit in 12 months.
- He has raised over $100 million of capital for software, hardware, system engineering, medical technology, and service firms.
Ed’s Board Committee experience includes Audit, Compensation, Strategy, M&A, and Corporate Governance. He served on the Board of QuesTech (QSED; Rev. $100M acquired by CACI International) and Klein Technology (Rev. $40M IT firm acquired by ADI); and numerous privately held firms. He was Chairman of the Audit Committee of the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO), a for-profit Government Agency. His nonprofit Boards include Chairman/Founder, Washington Chapter, National Association of Corporate Directors (2003-Present); President/Director/Founder, National Capital Chapter, Association for Corporate Growth (1989-2002) and at The Dingman Center, University of Maryland, he was the first Entrepreneur in Residence and a Director (1991-2004). Mr. Broenniman has an MBA from Stanford University and a BA from Yale University. He is a member of the Economic Club of Washington.
